2010 National Jamboree

In March 2009, Bryce joined Jamboree Troop 2015 in preparation to attend the BSA National Jamboree in Fort A.P Hill, Virginia in July 2010. They held many meetings and several camp outs to prepare for the Jamboree. In addition to the 10 days at the Jamboree, the troop also toured Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Sadly we have not been able to get the pictures to download off Bryce's camera, but we do have several that were posted by one of the Scoutmasters. We are still working on getting the pictures. In the meantime, here is a quick rundown of Bryce's trip - which he describes as "awesome".

The Troop traveled to Plymoth Rock and the Mayflower. They also toured Plimoth Plantation and ate dinner there. Here is Bryce with his friends Tim and Stephen.

Not sure why some of the pictures are small, but here is Bryce listening to the tour presentation.

Bryce said he and his buddy, Hunter, were not as attentive as they should have been with their tour guide in Philadelphia, so he made sure they were up close and personal so he could have their attention. Bryce said he was one of their best guides.

On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. Bryce is second from the left. See the all the scouts in the background!

At a statue honoring scouting in Washington D. C. This is the whole troop - 32 scouts and 4 scoutmasters.

At the Capitol. Bryce is kneeling in the front row on the left.

At the White House. Bryce is in the second row, 5 from the left. Look close for a shot of his head.

Bryce served as the chaplain's aide in his patrol. He is waiting his turn to help with the Scout's Own service at Mt. Vernon. He is second from the left. Although his troop was a traditional troop, one of his scoutmasters was LDS, and he took them to the LDS Sunday services on each of their Sundays. They also got to visit the Boston Temple and Washington D.C. Temple. On the Sunday at the Jamboree, his group went very early to get a good seat (they left at 6 am for a 9 am service). Since they were there so early, Bryce got to help prepare the Sacrament. They prepared 66 trays for the service. Elder Robert D. Hales was the speaker. Bryce said when it was over, he jumped up and joined the mass trying to shake Elder Hales' hand. Bryce was successful in getting up front and was able to shake the hand of one of the Lord's apostles. He was pretty excited about that.
Also while he was at the Jamboree he earned the George Albert Smith Award at the LDS booth. The award is a medal that Bryce proudly wore the rest of the Jamboree (and also to his Eagle Court of Honor this week).

After 10 days of touring, the troop finally reached the Jamboree. Here they are setting up their gateway. Each troop has a "gateway" that leads to their campsite. Bryce's troop had a bridge that people could actually walk over.

The completed bridge with their banner.

Bryce and Stephen sailing at the Jamboree. One of Bryce's favorite activities was shotgun. He also went to the trap/skeet shooting center and was able to finally learn the trick to shooting trap/skeet. He hit 5 out of 5 and 10 out of 10. He even came home with shotgun souvenirs.

After 10 days at the Jamboree celebrating 100 years of scouting, it was time to pack up and head home. After packing up their gear they headed to Kings Dominion for the rest of the day. It is a huge water park and amusement park in the area.

Bryce and his buddy, Hunter, at King's Dominion looking for the next fun ride.

After a long day on rides and in the water, the Troop was ready for a good rest. The next morning they headed to the airport and traveled home - after a stop at one last museum. Bryce had an amazing time. He is ready to go again. The next Jamboree is in 2013. Maybe Dan, Bryce and Adam could go?
