We ran up to Pinetop in late July for the weekend to get some more projects done and see the new fence we had installed to corral Luna. When we descended into the Salt River Canyon we were surprised to see the river running a chocolate brown. It is an indication of how much rain we've had - and how much erosion is occurring.
We had to stop and take some pictures just because it was so unusual.
We enjoyed the coolness the rain brought. On Saturday morning it started raining about 11 am with a booming thunderstorm. It reminded us of storms on Mt. Graham. Adam had to dash out and place a cup on the porch as a makeshift rain gauge to measure the rainfall. He is becoming a weather guru.
After a downpour and lots of thunder it mellowed into a nice steady rain the rest of the day. Then we had a repeat the next day. When we headed home in the late afternoon after church, it rained on us all the way to Superior. In Superior we noticed it was 74 degrees. As we came down into the Valley of the Sun through Gonzalez Pass the car thermometer jumped to 94! Thank goodness we could escape the heat for a quick weekend.
