On March 1, 2012, Dan's dad, Richard Dahl, would have turned 100. Dick almost made it to 100, he passed away at the age of 98. Because his dad was so interested in turning 100, Dan felt we should have a celebration on his birthday. We sent out an email to family and everyone thought it was a great idea.
In addition to cake and ice cream, we prepared a game for everyone. We printed out some old familiar pictures and placed questions next to them throughout the house. The children (Dan and his siblings) knew all the answers, so the questions were for the grandchildren - to keep those memories alive. The prize: A can of See's toffeettes - one of Grandpa Dahl's favorite treats.

Once everyone had a chance to write down their answers, we assembled for the unveiling of the answers (or debate of the answers).
Dick was the last word in judging which answer was correct.
Dan stood on the fireplace hearth and read off the questions. Then everyone gave their answers - which in turn evoked other memories.
Charlie was unable to attend, but called in and added a few memories of his own.
Being one of the oldest grandchildren (and also having an amazing memory) Matt was determined to win the prize. As it turned out Matt and Gretchen were almost tied and each went home with a prize.
Luna tried to help the great-grandchildren with their cake and ice cream consumption.
Lindsay and Edie were able to come up from Tucson to join the festivities.

It was a great evening of remembering. A lot of people thought it strange that we were having a 100th birthday party for someone who had passed away, but all of the family thought it was a fabulous idea. It was a great way to share stories and laugh together as family.

We are planning a birthday party for father in law's 90th. I'm going to use your question/quiz idea. Sounds fun!
