Bryce turns 16!

Turning 16 is a BIG deal!  It's that magic age when you get to drive.  Every kid's dream - every parent's nightmare.  But we didn't have to deal with that on Bryce's actual birthday because he didn't get his permit at the exact 15 years and 6 month mark, which meant he couldn't get his driver's license until six months after his permit was issued.

We still celebrated with cheesecake.  We love the Cheesecake factory!

Bryce blew out his candles and then opened his presents.  Although you can't tell in the pictures - the presents were actually wrapped (I make mention of it because that doesn't always happen).

We surprised Bryce with a new phone - an iphone.  That's a pretty excited smile on his face.

We had one more surprise for him.  Bryce has a favorite flannel blanket that he hauls back and forth to Pinetop when we go.  So I made a new flannel blanket for him to keep at the cabin.

How many 16-year-olds would have a genuine smile of happiness for a flannel blanket? Bryce is one of a kind!  As it turns out, he now hauls BOTH blankets back and forth.  You got to love him!

Bryce actually had two celebrations.  So on his actual birthday he had a fruit tart (another of his favorites - we don't much go for cake around here).

Doesn't that look yummy?

We don't have pictures of Bryce getting his driver's license.  There was a bit of drama that went with the experience.

First trip to the MVD - we discovered they stopped giving road tests at 3 pm - it was 3:10 pm when they called our number.  Grrrr!

Second trip to the MVD - Bryce failed the parking test.  You try backing a Ford F-150 into a J-turn from a parking spot when you've never done it before.  Bryce was SAD!

Third trip to MVD - Bryce sailed through the parking test (after a visit to the test site after hours for practice with Dad - highly recommended) and proceeded to ace his road test - 100% - no marks off!!  Woohoo!

I do have a picture on my phone of the end result.  One of these days I'll figure out how to get those pictures from the phone to here!

Congratulations, Bryce!

What a nice looking blanket. How did you make it, Michelle?

Happy Belated Birthday and Congratulations to Bryce. Turning 16 and driving is a HUGE deal and a scary one for us parents. Conner is over a year a way from turning 16 and he can hardly wait.

I love the blanket. All my kids have obsessions with blankets but then I do too so I guess that makes sense.
