Don't Try This At Home

We have these hurricane vases that we use for centerpieces when we have parties for special occasions. They have held candles, pinecones, and flowers to name a few. Always looking for a new idea, we decided to try goldfish for Adam's baptism celebration.

The night before Adam's baptism, we went to PetSmart and checked out their fish selection. Goldfish - 12 cents each! We were sold. We headed home with 20 goldfish in a plastic bag of water. We gave Adam the opportunity to name them. He chose the name Bob - for all of them. At home we placed the Bobs in a new bowl with fresh water and food. In the morning we had two casualties - not too unexpected, but sad.

We prepared the vases and divided up the fish. By the time we returned from the baptism we had a few more "floaties". Lindsay removed them and put them down the garbage disposal, which Michelle's brother, Max, later renamed the "Bass-o-matic". After the party several more were belly-up. By the following morning only three Bobs remained.

Although the only fish in our aquarium had a reputation as a cannibal, we decided the Bobs best chance was in the tank. We let them join Peach, the guppy, in the tank. One week later we are happy to report that all are alive.

So if you are looking for something new and interesting for a centerpiece, our advice is to stick with flowers and candles.

TOO FUNNY! I will forever laugh about the Bobs and our goldfish experience. And now that it is officially in writing I really will never live down my moment of weakness with the garbage disposal. Such fun times!

That is hysterical! I'm glad Adam wasn't too attached to any of his Bob's.
