The first rank in Cubs in LDS packs is Bobcat. Adam learned the Cub Scout Motto, The Cub Scout Law, and the Cub Scout Promise among other things. He worked on this through the summer while the pack was not meeting. So although he earned it a while ago, at the September pack meeting he received his Bobcat rank.
In our pack they used to have the dad hold the cub scout upside down while the mom pinned the Bobcat pin on their pocket. This resulted in the pin being upside down. The new cub scout was told he could turn it right side up when he had done a good deed. They have discontinued this practice though - must have dropped one too many cubs on their heads!
