Mt. Humphreys

In June, Bryce's Priests Quorum headed to Flagstaff to tackle Mt. Humphreys - the tallest peak in Arizona.  They stayed overnight at the Poulsen's cabin in Flagstaff.

Early Saturday morning they hit the trail.  It would take about 8 hours to make the round trip, so they wanted an early start.  Dan's plan was to summit by noon.

Andrew, Hayden and Alex at one of the rest stops.

Eldon Letner, John Poulsen, Jesse, Rustin Randall, Michael and Bryce at the sign in box.

And off they go.

Another stop on the trail.

Bryce taking a picture of the view.

Bryce on the trail.

That white speck in the middle of the picture is the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.

They are getting pretty high.

They have reached the elevation of 11,400 ft.  A little more than 1000 feet to go.

A view of one of the ski runs at the Snow Bowl.  They are laying some piping to allow them to make man made snow.

The view.

Almost to the top. The trail was almost lost in the rocks.

Dan and Bryce at the saddle.

Alex, Bryce, Dan, Eldon, Michael and Jesse (kneeling) at the saddle.  The group had spread out as they neared the top with everyone going at their own pace.

Bryce was determined to be the first to the summit.  With a quick sprint at the end, he was the first on the top.

The top!  12,633 feet!!  Here comes Hayden and Andrew bringing up the rear with Brother Randall.

Bristle cone pine.

The trail at the top.

More vistas.

Brother Letner and Brother Poulsen enjoying the view at the top.  What great leaders these boys have.

Dan's altimeter giving the elevation at 12,667 feet.  He made his goal and hit the summit two minutes before noon!

Bryce and Dan on the top of Mt. Humphreys.  They have been talking about this hike for a long time - and they finally made it!

Michael, Bryce and Hayden.

Another shot of Dan & Bryce at the top with a beautiful view of Arizona behind them.

More views.

The whole group - Brother Randall, Bryce, Hayden, Andrew, Michael, Brother Poulsen, Alex, Jesse, Brother Letner (kneeling), and Dan (in front).

The benchmark.

And then it was time to start the hike down the mountain.

Fragile tundra.

Another rest stop.  Brother Poulsen, Andrew, Alex, Brother Randall and Michael.

Back below the tree line.

The trail got pretty dusty as the group walked together.

Back to the base of the mountain.  What a great experience!

That looks like it was a great hike and a lot of fun! Sadly, we were just coming home from Utah when they left and Blake missed it.
