Out With the Old - In With the New

When we built our house, we looked at many options for the back patio. We chose stained concrete with saw cuts. Sometimes things don't turn out the way you think they will.

The surface was (1) slick (not good since it was right off the pool area), (2) hard to keep clean (we had to mop it and dry it with towels to get it clean for parties - who wants to mop their back patio? Not us!) and (3) it glared in the fall when the sun was low (we needed to pass out sunglasses for Thanksgiving dinner!)

We once again considered our options and chose to rip out the old concrete and replace it with pavers. This should solve all three problems on the back patio.

On Thursday, the crew showed up to demo the concrete. It was a long day with the jackhammer.

Now we are back to dirt - good old Gilbert clay. On Monday the paver people show up. They have to salvage some destroyed drip irrigation lines, and do site work first, but the pavers should be going down sometime on Tuesday. We can hardly wait! We'll post the "after" pictures when it is done.
