Birthdays in Pinetop

We asked Adam what he would like for his birthday (he is now in double digits - 10!!) and he wanted to go to Pinetop to our new cabin. It was our first overnight stay and he didn't care if the packing and traveling happened on his birthday, he just wanted to be there on his birthday. We are not much on birthday cakes in our family - we tend to go for pie and cookie cakes. Adam requested a big sugar cookie. Michelle made the dough before we left Gilbert to ease the cookie making experience (since we arrived at 8 pm) - but she did not have a rolling pin so the cookie is pretty sad looking. Adam said it looked like a scout had made it, but as soon as he took a bite all he could say was "MMMMMM".

Dan and Adam have back to back birthdays, so they always get to celebrate together.

Here is Michelle displaying the birthday cookie. Can you tell Adam is happy to be at the cabin and finally celebrating his birthday?

A close-up of the birthday cookie. This was after Adam blew out the candles. Notice all the colored wax on the cookie. We ate around the wax.

So we sat down to cookies and milk. Since it was a birthday celebration, we had our milk in goblets. Dan thought it was cute how Adam and Bryce chose the head and foot of the table.

The next day it was Dan's birthday. Lindsay and Boyd had arrived and Michelle and Lindsay made Boston Cream Cupcakes (from Martha Stewart's Cupcake book) since that is Dan's favorite cake. We forgot to adjust the recipe for high altitude, so they were a little flat on top, but they were yummy with their custard filling and chocolate ganache on top.

Isn't this a fun picture? We caught Dan just before he blew out his candle.
Happy Birthday, Adam & Dan!! What a great first visit to the cabin.
