Halloween Fun!

Halloween was great this year! Maybe because the emphasis was a little more on the trick than the treat. Lindsay and Boyd came for a visit over the weekend and joined our celebration. We had our neighborhood potluck before dark and visited with our neighbors. When the trick or treaters started to arrive we went back to our house to man the front door.

This is what greeted you at our front door - except it was dark, a strobe light was illuminating our friendly vampire, and fog was filling the entry. Our pumpkin face eerily shined through the fog as it swirled around the feet of the nervous trick or treaters. Then Dan (or later in the evening - Adam) would say - "Good Evening" from his hiding place behind the door and step out to give them a treat.

Bryce donned Dan's green derby for a little Halloween flavor as he manned the door. Finally some of his friends came and talked him into joining them to visit the neighborhood haunted house (very well done) and some trick or treating too.

Michelle took Adam out for a little trick or treating (Adam was Abraham Lincoln), but he soon wanted to go back to give out candy at the door and scare the kids.

We went to Springfield, IL over fall break and visited the new Lincoln Museum (it is fabulous). In the gift shop we spotted this Abe Lincoln hat, and Adam knew what he wanted to be for Halloween. Can you see his "beard"?

On Wednesday before Halloween, our ward had its annual Fall Festival - which is really another name for Halloween Party. There are hot dogs and chili, and all the trimmings, carnival booths for the kids, and at the end we "trunk or treat" to all the cars. Several people decorate their trunks for the event. Here is Bryce with his friends Phil Pedro and Conner Ellsworth (aka Obama).

Bryce, Adam and Michelle all bundled up since the weather dropped 20 degrees on Wednesday and winter arrived!

Dan all dressed up for trunk or treat by his truck which he decorated with pumpkins, strobe light, fog machine and played Toccatta and Fugue in D Minor by Bach on his truck stereo for some mood music.

It was a great year for Halloween. The weather was perfect for being outside, and there was an excitement in the air. We saw an increase in the number of trick or treaters - which we think was due to the fantastic free haunted house in our neighborhood. The streets were full of people and it was a fun place to celebrate Halloween!
