The Alder Reunion
It all started with Beulah and Elbert Alder (Michelle's grandparents).
This year, 2010, would have been Grandma & Grandpa's 100th birthday year. To celebrate, the Alder family gathered at our house for an Easter picnic - a tradition we all grew up with. The picnic was always the Saturday before Easter out at the ranch. This year it was still the Saturday before Easter, but we moved the venue to Gilbert and our backyard. Over 80 descendents of Elbert and Beulah gathered to remember them, and to strengthen family ties.
Before everyone arrived, Max made homemade rootbeer (which exploded - well maybe not exploded but bubbled up and all over the place). Adam kept an eye on the brew.
We set the tables and even added jelly beans for an appetizer or snack.
Michelle had prepared a giant family tree so everyone could find themselves and remember names of cousins (and their children).
The weather was perfect for basketball.
Mike, Nan and Cleone watched the action at the pool.
We started up the solar heater in mid-March and the water heated up to a perfect 89 degrees for the party. For some it was their first swim of the season.
Dan found Lindsay sneaking in some study time while the rest of us were relaxing. Now we know why she gets amazing grades in medical school. (Don't let the brown hair fool you - Lindsay has been a brunette for the last few months.)

Michelle introduced family story time. Many years ago we compiled a book of Grandma's life story and pictures, but we don't have something similar for Grandpa. So we listened to stories of Grandpa's life from Marden, Mike and Max. Now we just need to write them down and publish them.
And since it was the Easter picnic, we had a giant Easter egg hunt.
Even Elliot found one - thanks Dad.
It was a fun day. Good food, good weather and good people. What more could you ask for?

I'm glad that your family reunion went so well. You have had one busy fun filled party week. I'm sure your glad it's all over:) My great grandmother's name is Beulah also. It's a name you don't hear to often but evitdently it must have been popular in that generation.
