Fishing Boat "Break-in"

Back in early May, Dan purchased an aluminum fishing boat. The Young Men in our ward are headed on a canoe trip down the Green River and Dan is going - partly to have fun, but also as the medical team (he's the whole team). He decided if they had a medical emergency that was not treatable on the river, it would be wise to have a way to evacuate someone from the river since there is no help along the river. The time was right since we had just bought the cabin in Pinetop and were looking forward to fishing in the many lakes in the area.

When Dan was growing up, they always fished from a boat, similar to this one, so he was excited to repeat the experience. Thus, we are owners of a new fishing boat. But before it could be used on the Green River expedition, it needed to be broken in. So Dan made several trips to nearby lakes to put some hours on the motor and be sure he understood how everything ran.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, he took the boat to Canyon Lake for some motor time.

Here is a picture to remind him how the boat looked new, because it will get some wear and tear on the river excursion.

Luckily he tried out his equipment, because he discovered the oars were not the right length and one broke while he was trying them out.

After a trip up the lake, he returned to the dock to get off the lake before all the big boats hit the water. Now he is ready for a trip down the river.
