We stayed home for spring break and took advantage of the warm weather and the solar heater warming our pool to 90 degrees. But on Friday, Dan was off after call and we headed out to the desert with Uncle Dick (Dan's brother) for some shooting practice.
In February, Bryce did a Social Studies project on World War I weapons. Dan pointed out to Bryce that Uncle Dick has some of the guns he had included in his report. Dan talked with Dick and we made arrangements for some trigger time in the desert. Dan is holding a P-14 from World War I.
Dick looks on as Bryce takes a turn with the a 1911 Colt .45. This was one of the guns he included in his project.
Dick brought a .22 for Adam to try. Dick had shortened the stock and sawed off the barrel which made the rifle just the right size for Adam. Dick reviewed gun safety with the boys (one rule - you always treat a gun as if it is loaded), and taught them how to load the gun, aim and fire.
Michelle even took a turn, and with Dick's bipod to steady her aim, she was able to hit the target! It took Michelle back to her childhood when her family would go target shooting in the desert.
We had to include this picture of Bryce. He kept putting his ear protection up on his head in between shooting, and he looked like he was wearing Mickey Mouse ears!
