As I mentioned in a previous post, we went river rafting on the Arkansas River in Colorado during the Dahl family reunion. These pictures are taken on Maytag falls. Dan is in the front on the left (your left), Michelle is behind him, and Adam is sitting in the middle next to Michelle. Adam was a little nervous on the bus ride to the river, but once we were on the water, he was all smiles.

We all had to paddle - "forward 1", "forward 2" or "backward 1".

A couple of times Adam (the guide) grabbed Michelle's PFD (personal floatation device) to keep her from separating from the raft - Thank You, Adam!! We only lost one person from a raft on each run. Emily took a dip in the water on Friday, and Pat was the swimmer on Saturday. Luckily it was adults that fell out and not one of the kids!

Bryce buddied up with his cousin, Zach, and was in another boat - the blue boat.

Their ride was just as wild as ours was in the yellow boat.

You can't see Bryce in all the pictures, but you can see his paddle digging into the water.

Bryce is second from the left (with a blue helmet).

You can get a better look at Bryce in this shot. He even looks like he is enjoying the ride.

As the water smoothed out, they got a better shot of Bryce since he was sitting in the second seat. Zach was in front, but they both got soaked. Luckily we were outfitted in wetsuits, rain gear, PFD's and helmets. The wetsuits were great because the water was 45 degrees!

Go river rafting! We highly recommend it!!

You are always doing fun things as a family.
Was that as scary as it looks in the photos?
I'm with Cynthia. That looks really scary. In fact I'm looking at this going wow, you guys are pretty curagous. I'm not so sure about that! I'm glad that you guys had fun!
It wasn't scary but it did get your adrenaline pumping. Of course, they took the pictures at the height of the rapids, although there was very little still water. There were several sections as fast as the one shown in the pictures. It was a great adventure. If you ask Adam if he would go again, he says "Yes." So that tells you the level of scariness too - he is not our risk taker.
