Dan always works on New Year's Eve. So when he discovered this fall that he would be off work, he had a brainstorm that we should go to the Rose Parade. We had last gone in 1999 - Morgan and Lindsay were young teenagers, Bryce was almost 2, and Adam wasn't here yet. Dan checked online for tickets and a few months later - there we were in Pasadena, California on a beautiful January 1st to greet the new year and watch the Rose Parade in person.
We had reserved seats in the grandstands about two-thirds of the way down the parade route.
The pictures are out of order - but at the end of the parade all the unused tow trucks joined in to finish off the spectacle. They only had to use two of the trucks, but they had them parked all along the route ready to go if they were needed. Some of the trucks were huge!
All of the floats were fabulous. Here was one of our favorites. The plane actually turned in the air.
Here comes of the Marine Corp band. A favorite since Michelle's dad was a Marine. They sounded powerful. Our bleachers were filled with band parents cheering on their kids. Right behind us were parents of band members from Tennessee. When their band came by, the stands went wild. They said it took 14 months of work and $500,000 to march in the Rose Parade!!
The Boy Scouts of America had a float for the first time. They are celebrating 100 years of scouting in the USA. There float depicted all the different types of activities the boys enjoy. In the center was a zipline too.
This was just a taste of the many bands, floats and other entries we saw. It was amazing. Make plans to go!
